Following the success of the Savile Row limited edition, we have created a new Wajima hanger. The hanger pays homage to the infamous street known for high-end menswear and footwear. The hanger, itself, is fashioned from a single block of wood and its shape is hand-planed to perfection.

But the additional artwork deserves special attention. Okagaki-san, a "Wajima" lacquer master, fashions paint powder from scratch, from which he subsequently decorates the whole hanger by hand. The Jermyn Street sign is hand-painted with brushwork.

Made to order only; production time of 9-12 weeks. We will do our best to honour any requests for custom details.

  • The Rolls Royce of Hangers

Make no mistake about it. Nakata Hangers, a Japanese firm as old as the Taisho period, represents the pinnacle of Japanese woodworking. Even the faintest hairlines of wood grain are taken into consideration. The end result is craftsmanship that is simply astounding.

  • Wajima Step 1: Subtracted by Hand

The level of the Wajima hangers ensure that they are painstakingly carved from a single block of wood using a traditional Japanese tool called the Nankin-Kanna. This allows the hanger to be shaped in such a way as to ensure strength and rigidity, whilst preserving the natural grain of the wood.

  • Wajima Step 2: Lacquer

The Wajima art form invokes gathering seashells of particular colours to reproduce the necessary hue. The lacquer is then applied to the hanger body by hand, which glistens differently in different light.

  • Wajima Step 3: Hand-Painting

The trench of the hanger is then decorated by hand by Mr. Okagaki -- the lead Wajima artist. Methods include hand-painting as well as spreading decorations on the trench head. Depictions include a homage to Mt Fuji, Savile Row, Jerymyn St, and other ideas relevant to the menswear and Arterton.

  • Japanese Craftsmanship Since 1946

Nakata has been around for nearly a century, crafting high-end hangers using traditional Japanese tools. Today, they continue to bring merge traditional with modern techniques of production in order to produce the world's finest hangers.
