The Austerity is a classic take on a pair of black oxfords.

The Austerity is from Bridlen's founder line, which seeks to push the boundaries of shoemaking by invoking materials, techniques, and crafts that are paradigmatic of higher-end shoes.

+ Shoe Features

  • Goodyear welted construction (360° channeled)
  • Barrel waist
  • Oak-tanned leather sole from J & FJ Baker (up to 24% longer lasting than traditional leather soles)
  • Outsoles stitched to 8 SPI specification

+ Materials

The thick and supple leather uppers are sourced from Annonay tannery (France).

The insole is vegetable-tanned leather, which is strengthened through a traditional slow chestnut pit tan in Tuscany, Italy.

+ Sizing

Bridlen shoes fit true to size. Take your usual UK sizing.

360° Goodyear Welt

Direct Channel Stitching (No Adhesives)

J&FJ Baker's Soles

  • The Classics of Shoemaking

Bridlen prides itself on sticking to the basics of crafting a well-made shoe. In lieu of highly industrialised methods, Bridlen elects to stitch rather than glue, and craft rather than merely produce.

  • 360 Degree Channel Welt

Not all Goodyear welts are equal. Whereas the welt sits below the insole stitched to a cotton rib for most Goodyear welted shoes, Bridlen opts to stitch the welt 360° and directly to the side wall of the insole giving the shoe a sharper feather edge and better flexibility. A thicker insole is required for this process, but the result is a superior shoe.

About Bridlen

Focusing on classic shoemaking techniques, Bridlen is noted for crafting well-made shoes out of European materials. A 360 degree channel welt and an above industry standard insole is standard.
